We
are a husband and wife, editor and graphic designer of Open Range,
and decided on a publishing venture because strapped university
presses could not risk a large and expensive volume of poetry,
a notoriously slow seller in any case, and folk poetry at that,
with its whiff of the unwashed. Aside from starting our own business,
all the other paths to publication seemed to require compromising
the quality of a limited edition. To finance the production we
consigned a long-held and beloved collection of Western Americana
to the auction block. If you, the public, validate our contention
that Kiskaddon's work deserves such a setting, by buying out the
limited edition fairly quickly, we intend to reprint in a less
deluxe "trade edition" that will be affordable to many
who may want the book, but are unable to stand the steep price
of this limited edition.
